Mixing purple and gray FAQ

Light adds up instead of absorbing, so purple and gray light make a purple (#AA91CE). That is why screens can show bright yellows from red and green light, while the same paints would turn brown.

Change the ratio. Three parts purple to one part gray gives a purple (#784996), while one part purple to three parts gray gives a muted purple (#86728D). To lighten the result add white, and to darken it add a little black.

Use color-mix(in oklch, #6B2FA3 50%, #8A8A8A 50%), which gives #7A6299. OKLCH keeps the middle of the mix bright, while mixing in sRGB tends to turn it gray.
