Mixing pink and gray FAQ

Mixed as paint, pink and gray make a gray (#B29BA6). As light on a screen, they make a light pink (#FFC3D6), and blended in CSS with OKLCH they give a muted pink (#BF99A5).

Light adds up instead of absorbing, so pink and gray light make a light pink (#FFC3D6). That is why screens can show bright yellows from red and green light, while the same paints would turn brown.

Change the ratio. Three parts pink to one part gray gives a muted pink (#CAA2B3), while one part pink to three parts gray gives a gray (#9E9398). To lighten the result add white, and to darken it add a little black.

Use color-mix(in oklch, #F4A6C0 50%, #8A8A8A 50%), which gives #BF99A5. OKLCH keeps the middle of the mix bright, while mixing in sRGB tends to turn it gray.
