Mixing orange and gray FAQ
Mixed as paint, orange and gray make a brown (#AD8D42). As light on a screen, they make an orange (#FFB387), and blended in CSS with OKLCH they give a brown (#BF8D67).
Light adds up instead of absorbing, so orange and gray light make an orange (#FFB387). That is why screens can show bright yellows from red and green light, while the same paints would turn brown.
Change the ratio. Three parts orange to one part gray gives a brown (#C58D36), while one part orange to three parts gray gives an olive (#9A8D56). To lighten the result add white, and to darken it add a little black.
Use color-mix(in oklch, #F28C28 50%, #8A8A8A 50%), which gives #BF8D67. OKLCH keeps the middle of the mix bright, while mixing in sRGB tends to turn it gray.
