Mixing red and gray FAQ
Mixed as paint, red and gray make a crimson (#A33B5D). As light on a screen, they make a pink (#F28C95), and blended in CSS with OKLCH they give a brown (#B46365).
Light adds up instead of absorbing, so red and gray light make a pink (#F28C95). That is why screens can show bright yellows from red and green light, while the same paints would turn brown.
Change the ratio. Three parts red to one part gray gives a crimson (#B02D4D), while one part red to three parts gray gives a crimson (#9B4F70). To lighten the result add white, and to darken it add a little black.
Use color-mix(in oklch, #D1193E 50%, #8A8A8A 50%), which gives #B46365. OKLCH keeps the middle of the mix bright, while mixing in sRGB tends to turn it gray.
