Mixing red and green FAQ

Mixed as paint, red and green make a dark brown (#573D46). As light on a screen, they make a brown (#D38E5C), and blended in CSS with OKLCH they give a brown (#936D00).

Light adds up instead of absorbing, so red and green light make a brown (#D38E5C). That is why screens can show bright yellows from red and green light, while the same paints would turn brown.

Change the ratio. Three parts red to one part green gives a dark brown (#673344), while one part red to three parts green gives a dark gray (#4D4E47). To lighten the result add white, and to darken it add a little black.

Use color-mix(in oklch, #D1193E 50%, #1E8C45 50%), which gives #936D00. OKLCH keeps the middle of the mix bright, while mixing in sRGB tends to turn it gray.
