Mixing red and teal FAQ

Mixed as paint, red and teal make a muted purple (#513C5B). As light on a screen, they make a pink (#D28E93), and blended in CSS with OKLCH they give an olive (#827900).

Light adds up instead of absorbing, so red and teal light make a pink (#D28E93). That is why screens can show bright yellows from red and green light, while the same paints would turn brown.

Change the ratio. Three parts red to one part teal gives a dark brown (#5D334E), while one part red to three parts teal gives a muted blue (#4A4D6C). To lighten the result add white, and to darken it add a little black.

Use color-mix(in oklch, #D1193E 50%, #128C87 50%), which gives #827900. OKLCH keeps the middle of the mix bright, while mixing in sRGB tends to turn it gray.
