Mixing green and orange FAQ

Mixed as paint, green and orange make a green (#588F39). As light on a screen, they make a yellow (#F4C050), and blended in CSS with OKLCH they give a yellow (#9D9200).

Light adds up instead of absorbing, so green and orange light make a yellow (#F4C050). That is why screens can show bright yellows from red and green light, while the same paints would turn brown.

Change the ratio. Three parts green to one part orange gives a green (#3D8D3E), while one part green to three parts orange gives an olive (#7A9035). To lighten the result add white, and to darken it add a little black.

Use color-mix(in oklch, #1E8C45 50%, #F28C28 50%), which gives #9D9200. OKLCH keeps the middle of the mix bright, while mixing in sRGB tends to turn it gray.
