Mixing red and white FAQ

Mixed as paint, red and white make a pink (#F85D8C). As light on a screen, they make a muted pink (#FFCED1), and blended in CSS with OKLCH they give a red (#F29B9C).

Light adds up instead of absorbing, so red and white light make a muted pink (#FFCED1). That is why screens can show bright yellows from red and green light, while the same paints would turn brown.

Change the ratio. Three parts red to one part white gives a pink (#EB3F69), while one part red to three parts white gives a pink (#FF83B0). To lighten the result add white, and to darken it add a little black.

Use color-mix(in oklch, #D1193E 50%, #FFFFFF 50%), which gives #F29B9C. OKLCH keeps the middle of the mix bright, while mixing in sRGB tends to turn it gray.
