Mixing brown and white FAQ
Mixed as paint, brown and white make a tan (#CCA57C). As light on a screen, they make an off-white (#FFF2EE), and blended in CSS with OKLCH they give a tan (#BDA191).
Light adds up instead of absorbing, so brown and white light make an off-white (#FFF2EE). That is why screens can show bright yellows from red and green light, while the same paints would turn brown.
Change the ratio. Three parts brown to one part white gives a brown (#B38258), while one part brown to three parts white gives a tan (#E0C4A3). To lighten the result add white, and to darken it add a little black.
Use color-mix(in oklch, #7B4A2A 50%, #FFFFFF 50%), which gives #BDA191. OKLCH keeps the middle of the mix bright, while mixing in sRGB tends to turn it gray.
