Mixing orange and white FAQ

Mixed as paint, orange and white make an orange (#FABA5D). As light on a screen, they make a tan (#FFD5C2), and blended in CSS with OKLCH they give a tan (#FCC79F).

Light adds up instead of absorbing, so orange and white light make a tan (#FFD5C2). That is why screens can show bright yellows from red and green light, while the same paints would turn brown.

Change the ratio. Three parts orange to one part white gives an orange (#F7A442), while one part orange to three parts white gives a light yellow (#FCD183). To lighten the result add white, and to darken it add a little black.

Use color-mix(in oklch, #F28C28 50%, #FFFFFF 50%), which gives #FCC79F. OKLCH keeps the middle of the mix bright, while mixing in sRGB tends to turn it gray.
